New Jersey State Core Curriculum Standards
Standard 2: All students will listen actively in a variety of situations to information from a variety of sources.
Standard 3: All students will write in clear, concise, organized language that varies in content and form for different audiences and purposes.
Standard 4: All students will read various materials and texts with comprehension and critical analysis.

Objectives:

Students will:
  • Read and/or listen to the story Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes and discuss it literally and analytically
  • List 3–5 things that Wemberly worried about and what she could do or think about to help herself not to feel worried.
  • Brainstorm a time when they were worried about something and how they overcame their fear/worry.
  • Understand the basic format of a paragraph.
  • Complete a graphic organizer as a prewriting strategy.
  • Use a graphic organizer as a prewriting strategy to write a five-sentence paragraph about their experience to include an introductory sentence, three detail sentences and a wrap up sentence.
