Making Predictions (Secondary Level)
Print Friendly Version
Purpose: |
To provide students in grades 6-12 with a way to create a visual representation of their ideas when making predictions about a novel. |
Introduction: |
This graphic organizer is specifically designed for use with older students because it goes beyond a simple prediction. Students use the graphic organizer to make predictions about the novel they read or listened to and then provide the supporting quotes and facts to support their predictions. This can then be incorporated into a writing assignment or other project. |
Directions for using the graphic organizer: |
- Give students the graphic organizer at a designated point at the beginning of the novel where you want them to each make a prediction.
- Explain to students that whatever prediction they make, they must be prepared to support it with both a quote and facts that they will include on the graphic organizer.
- Collect the graphic organizers from students with the final box, conclusion and analysis, blank.
- Redistribute students’ graphic organizers after they have completed reading or listening to the novel. Have them fill in the final box with whether or not their prediction was correct. If it was not, students should also include what the actual event was and how their prediction relates to the final event.
